More About Garden Storage

There are many ways to add value to your home. You could add another room. Now, it is well known that your garden is ‘another room’, and whilst it may be difficult to extend your garden, it is possible to add another room within your garden, by the addition of a garden shed.
A garden shed can add to the the value of a house. This is because it can be used as a detached room. To be used as such, the shed needs to fulfil certain criteria.
The first is size. The larger the shed the better. A large shed can be used as a bar for those long summer evenings and, if electricity is laid on, for those long winter evenings. Or, it can be used to house exotic pets (those that scare visitors), or to house teenagers (who may also scare visitors).
The second is construction. If the shed is flimsy it is more likely to sustain damage. A shed of sturdy construction, by comparison, allows itself to be drilled and nailed for this and that, and if you have been a little lax in treating the wood, it will forgive you.
The third is location. If you want to entertain, it is useful to have the shed close to your back door. This will give you a short distance over which to transfer food and drink. It also makes those necessary little trips easier for you and your guests. On the other hand, if you want to escape from the house and its annoying denizens, place it far away. Both have their attractions. Just don’t compromise and stick it half-way up the garden where it is neither an escape, or an extension.
The fourth is paint appeal. A dark and dim shed is not appealing. Lighten it up with white or cream paint on the inside and not only is it more welcoming, it also appears larger.
The fifth is insulation. If you want to spend time in the shed for long periods of time, maybe because you have a model railway set, or because you are designing a new aeroplane, insulate it. You will then make it winter-friendly and cold evening friendly.
These five simple criteria will not only add thousands to the value of your home, but also, perhaps, encourage you to keep it.
